Smelt/Mining Same Time

At current you are still able to smelt and mine at the same time.

Start smelting ore and then begin to mine and no check seems to prevent it.  Confused

Shovel (everyone pretty much uses a shovel due to the use to price value. Pickaxe is 25gp for 50 uses or Shovel 12gp for 200 uses)
