Backstory - Running through a strange wood Selena began to slow, "Where am I? How did I get here? Why am I running?" Just as she came to a stop it hit her: overwhelming hunger. As if she were no longer in control, she heard - no - felt a deer nearby. Before Selena realized, she was speeding silently through the wood toward the deer. She could smell the fear as the deer picked up the slightest sound she'd made that had disrupted its feeding. Once more, she came to a halt and gave herself a mental shake to try and clear her mind in order to take back control of herself.

On the battlefield, Selena had just struck down another foe. Selena knew if they found out she was female, likely she'd join the piles of enemies littering the ground. Stories of her brother and his heroics had always been her favorite as she was growing up. Although they had never met; he had long since left home before she had been born, she idolized him, wanting to be just like him. Try as she might, her family would never view her in the same light as him because she was only a girl. She'd learned through repeated chiding that the only way she could ever hope to be able to advance the family status would be through marriage.

Anger the likes of which she'd never felt before overtook her, coloring her vision with a red tint. "What was going on?" Something was wrong with her, but she couldn't tell what it was. Heat and excruciating pain chased all other thoughts from Selena's mind. The sound of bones cracking hurt her now sensitive ears. A blood curdling scream that turned into a howl reminiscent of a lone wolf pierced the silence that followed the cracks and snaps of bone. Once more she ran, but now it was upon four paws. No, this isn't possible. It's the stuff of stories to frighten children. Once more, Selena struggled to gain control of herself.

The battle field was all but silent now; it had been a long and difficult fight, but they now earned victory. Scavengers, as well as residents of a nearby village of all sorts began to pick through what was left by those no longer in need of possessions. Selena began toward the very edge of it all in search of a moment of respite when she felt that she was no longer alone. The last thing she could recall was the sound of a low growl, and fur coming clearly into view.

Selena sensed as well as felt the presence of someone nearby, and for some strange reason, she knew this person could help her. She felt both as if she should know them and had always known them. Pain overtook her once again as bones cracked and reformed. Exhausted, Selena dropped to the floor of the woods at his feet and managed to whimper, "Help me," just as sight faded to darkness.

Contrary to popular belief, the wings of demons are the same as the wings of angels, although they're often better groomed.
