Character Name Rendethryn Stormsong

Character Race & Subrace Muiri - Dragon

Alternate Graphic Red dragon (body value 59; body hue 2906)

Character Description Reaching 8' (2.5M) at the shoulder, Rendethryn is a large dragon, but with a sleek, slender build that makes her appear a little smaller than others.  From her tapered muzzle to the leaf-like spade of her long, graceful tail, her body is covered in small, diamond-shaped scales of brilliant blue that shine with purple iridescence.
Her body is almost completely devoid of the spikes and spines and armor plating so common among her kind, with the exception of two smooth horns sweeping back from her skull in a slight upward curve.  A second, smaller set of horns extend back from her cheekbones, accentuating the line of her muzzle.
She sports a pair of large wings upon her back, narrow and pointed like a falcon's and adorned with a single thumb claw at the joint.  Her entire being radiates with the nimble elegance of a creature built for agility instead of brute force.

In her glamored form, which she seldom takes, she appears as a tall, slender Aelfeyn woman in her late 20s. High cheekbones complement her elegant features, and soft waves of rose gold hair cascade to the small of her back.  She carries herself gracefully, some might say arrogantly, but her lips are generally turned up in a gentle smile.  In either form, her eyes are the same brilliant blue as her scales, and the pupils constrict into catlike slits when angered or stressed.

Shard Plotline Strengths & Weaknesses  Like most dragons, Rendethryn has a hoard that she guards fiercely; unlike most dragons, her hoard tends to be people and creatures that she has brought under her protection.  She also has a strong ambitious streak, and fully believes that her actions are for the greater good.  Both of these traits can be a strength or a weakness, depending on the circumstances, for while she will defend anyone and anything she claims as "hers," this also leaves her open to manipulation by others.

Special RP Ability  Rendethryn is able to exert a mild form of mind control over others, notably the weak-willed or those open to suggestion.  Against players, this would require OOC consent and a rolled Will save, but even then the process can be quite draining against stronger-willed individuals.

Previous World  A homebrew world called Eakari, where humans are scarce and have barely reached the Dark Ages, while dragons are the dominant species and constant threat.  Some treat the humans as vermin to be exterminated, while others seek to subjugate them as thralls.  Rendethryn found a different solution.

Backstory
Rendethryn had ruled over her territory for generations - human generations, at least, and nurtured it into a valley of veritable paradise.  The forests and fields teemed with life, even a few smaller dragons and drakes dwelled along the cliffs.  So long as they maintained an orderly existence, she was content to coexist.  Thankfully, her territory's reputation as a "dragon nest" had kept humans at a distance.  She'd heard stories of dragons who defended their lands viciously against human invaders.  Those stories usually ended badly for the dragon.  So when a weak, starving band of humans arrived in her lands, she tried something unprecedented: she spoke to them.  Thankfully, the humans were so weary from their travels, they were easily swayed to her particular brand of reason.

At first, she worked by their side to establish a small settlement, helping to clear land, culling deer from the herds, and nudging her settlers in whatever direction suited her whims.  It was rather like having a pet, or a particularly needy houseplant.  Much to her surprise, they even came to her aid when a rival dragon attempted to claim her territory.  It was, as the saying goes, the start of a beautiful relationship.

As the years passed, the humans seemed perfectly capable of ruling themselves, and Rendethryn was content to leave them to their own devices.  They viewed her as something of a protective deity, which, if she was being honest, suited her just fine, and her little valley flourished under her auspices.  Until the ships came.

Rendethryn was perhaps the first to notice dark shapes upon the horizon, sunning as she usually did upon the sea cliff.  Their prows had been carved into the (crude, in her opinion) likeness of dragon heads, except for the largest ship.  It boasted the actual skull of a great Wyrm, mounted as a trophy upon its bow.  Her warning roar echoed through the valley, stirring human and dragon alike to battle, and she leapt to the air to lead them.  There would be no speaking and no reason with the invaders.

The battle was vicious, but quick.  The invading ships were far more experienced in war, and in hunting dragons, though the valley dwellers defended themselves mightily.  At some point, a weighted net fired from a ballista tangled her wings, sending her plummeting to earth.  And then, everything went black.  She awoke, dazed, in the hold of one of the invading ships, bound with thick ropes and an iron ring around her muzzle.  So their experience lay solely with the fire-breathers, she realized.  Her pupils constricted into slits so narrow they almost vanished, and she called forth a violent storm from above.  With a flash and deafening crack of thunder, the ship was reduced to splinters, and Rendethryn was plunged into the icy sea.  Her sleek form cut through the water, to freedom, swimming until she could barely go on.  She peered into the gloom and saw land in the distance.  It was not her valley, that much she could tell, but it would do.

I particularly appreciated the description of having humans around as taking care of "a particularly needy houseplant." Tongue

This seems like a fun character and I'm sure you will do it justice. Have fun. Approve.
