Hello. The way you explain the shapechange, more as 'earth armor," than just simply having the ability to be an earth elemental seems interesting to me. Additionally, considering your story I would say you basically decided for yourself option #1, in terms of special role play abilities. Honestly, that is the one I would of picked too since I find it more interesting that he can sorta "see," the world around him due to his being in-tuned to the earth. So it fits well for me.
