Harold Clearwater
#1
Discord Id  Jeremold
Previous Characters : new here
Character Name : Harold Clearwater
Character Race & Sub-Race : Summoned Bone Knight
Alternate Graphic : Bone knight with sword/shield

Character Description : Tattered clothing and a skeletal grimace. Moves fast enough for a pile of bones.

How will my character be involved with the Shard Plot Line : Wandering around torn between a love of the sea and a weakness to salt.

Special Role-play Ability : Can communicate despite being a skeleton-person

Previous World : Unknown

Backstory :   Harold lived as a fisherman for many years. He had no family but had wished deeply for one. He worked on a small fishing ship pulling ropes and such but preferred to go out fishing alone in his small dingy with only a few rods and some snacks.

One day while working aboard the vessel they found themselves boarded and hastily abducted by pirates. Harold and the crew he worked with were sold to a strange man who sold them to a stranger man. This man murdered the entire crew in a diabolical ritual, binding them together as an actual skeleton crew.

Harold spent unknown lengths of time rowing aboard a ghost ship in a dimension he couldn't comprehend. Little remained of Harold, except a feint love of the water and fishing which smoldered deep within him.

The ghost ship and crew eventually found themselves banished to some other realm, being below-deck they had no idea what ever occurred in the worlds above or around them. Their world was the rowing and the cramped room and the creaks and pops of ancient magical bones.

With their ship gone the crew dissolved quickly, each walking off to who knows where, lost in a place they didn't understand and only bare fragments of their former selves. Most would end up recruited into skeletal armies. Through battling countless enemies in unknown worlds they honed their abilities over and over.

Harold finds himself in the world of Sanctuary unsure of how he has arrived, as it usually goes for him, except this time felt different than any other. Harold had no clear commands to follow, no lich king tugging at his mind, no dark sorceress pointing to some city demanding it's surrender, instead there was just a kind of peace. He simply stood where he was for many days, until he felt a feeling long forgotten. He felt a tinge of joy, a flash, a memory of what it felt like to feel a tinge of joy.

A command followed this feeling, a command which came from within him somewhere. And off Harold went to follow the command, as he had done for millennia.

This is a very neat character concept/backstory!

However, if you want access to 'the rest of the game' (world map, etc.) he will need to be more involved in the actual shard plotline than 'wandering around'. The intention with this shard is for the actual story of the world to be driven by the player characters, rather than the player characters acted upon by a seer team.

If you're fine with being restricted to the Summer Isles, you have my thumbs up; otherwise, that aspect needs to be updated.

edit:

How will my character be involved with the Shard Plot Line : Seeking out the Noble house of Bazhir after having heard of it's openness and willingness to accept different types. Will offer services such as food gathering and on-the-water transportation. Harold has an intense hatred for piracy which will likely drive him to seek them out, and that permanent desire for fishing which will lead him around the world's waterways.

It really is an interesting character concept.

Thank you for taking the time to answer Nir's question, I just wanted to point out one final thing, the question about the shard storyline does not mean you MUST join a house. More than anything it's meant to give players the opportunity to think about their character and what they are striving/fighting for (if they choose to go to the main map and participate in the shard storyline), and what they hope to gain from the struggle.

If you think about things like that, it can really help make a character round/full of life. Again, thank you for thinking about this question. If you have any questions don't hesitate in poking me in Discord.

Thumbs up. Smile
