Currently there is no mechanical reason to to make and sell food as hunger does not affect stats or the game world. Is it possible to make the system more useful?

I'm not well versed in this, but I have noticed sometimes after I eat I get better skill gains (more frequent).
But, I would like to add a request to this making food more useful - Is it possible to attach consequences to not eating? Over time you grow hungrier and hungrier and once dipping below a threshold, you temporarily lose stat points as hunger pangs hit.

We have added the request that food will improve passive skill gain, and for now I think this is a good addition that is easy to implement, doesn't feel annoying, and helps those with cooking. I'm archiving this request because the other is more specifically worded.
